Li Batt Mower

Used to have Black & Decker corded mower, just one switch.

Ryobi 404018 has three.

Why does the blade stop while the "self-propel" still works? Then almost randomly tsart cutting again?

Is there a way to mow without self-propell hogging power? ie, not squeeze the triggers on the handle, but only the start button?

Strictly guesses on my part. Self propel would work to get mower back to storage after one is done mowing.

Random suggests defective. Is there a switch out of adjustment?

You'd think with all the technology in there, it would come with a manual that explains it.

It also helps when loading the mower into the bed of a pickup truck with ramps.

IIRC, I've never seen a self-propelled mower that wouldn't allow you to mow without using the drive.

Like when you have to pull it backwards!

Apparently the blade stops when "overwhelmed" and then continues. It behaves more like a gasoline power than electric. Still, would like better control over this.

Instead of a single on switch, it has a wire on lever, a blade start button and self-propell triggers. Neighbors figured what I did too: don't use the propel triggers and push yourself. Manual says don't pull it backwards.

Now there's an interesting bit of info ! 1. why not ? 2. how about trimming under the edges of trees and bushes ? < a lot of forward & backwards - but for short distances >

They don't want the lawsuit when you cut your toes off.

Ha Ha .. but seriously .. The reasons are important - is it something quite minor - like poor cutting performance or clogging the chute ? or something quite major - like ruining your drive mechanism in a short time ? I often pull my mower backwards for significant stretches : : when mowing narrow strips - it's quicker than turning around ; : to keep the chute in the same direction for a few passes, to clear the clippings away from the house/driveway/neighbour's yard. It'll be a sad day when I'm forced to replace my 30 + year old Jacobsen/Homelite aluminum 3.5 B&S Quantum .. .. that cost me $ 25. almost 20 years ago. John T.

If you stopped the mower because there's a tree ahead, what are supposed to do? Leave the mower there until you cut down the tree?

That kind of thing is likely to be the reason, when they don't say. Nothing wrong with the mower. What I really don't like is when they say "for your own safety" when they really mean something about their lawyers.

The tree will eventually fall down by itself.

A cordless mower is less than 1 horsepower. I'm surprised self propel works at all.

How did you come up with that number? This one is supposed to have the same power as a 170 cc. gas mower. 170cc. is about 10.4 cubic inches. That really doesn't mean much though.

I found a 5 hp. Briggs & Stratton engine that had 163 cc. That doesn't mean a whole lot with all of the variables.

I did a bit more snooping. The Consumer Reports' testers like the gasoline 21-inch Honda HRN216VKA It has a 166 cc. engine.

Exactly. THe "self-propelled" is like bronco busting - mind of its own. Not using it is like my 1975 Black & Decker, and the battery lasts longer And the blade doesn't choke.

Worked so well, actually thinking of NOT getting second battery.
