House has 2 main panels?

Mar 14, 2014 2 Replies

Older house with an addition circa 1965. Drop comes in, through 1 meter. F rom the meter one set of wires goes to the old panel which is located in a closet, another set of wires (for the newer addition) in conduit on the out side of the house goes to a main disconnect then to another panel on a porc h about 20' away. Is this considered 2 main panels since neither panel feed s off each other?

Does the main disconnect you spoke of remove power from the second panel?

You can have up to 6 disconnects but they need to be grouped together.
