Home Depot Warning

It's possible but my Southern Republican ancestors were abolitionists. When I explain that the Republicans were anti-slavery to my melanin enabled friends, they can't believe it because it runs counter to the crap they've been exposed to all their lives.

Try the F-Secure on-line scanner. Also check out last months PC World for other on-line sites.

I got the information from bleepingcomputer and was able to be rid of the basic program. That is where I got the registry information. I still can't get to certain web sites though. I'm wondering if I remove and re-install Internet Explorer is the problem would be repaired. I'm going to try making a bootable CD on my computer from a Norton website to see if that helps.

Don't do that!

Ed, download the Firefox browser and see if you can go to all sites.

Post back and back with results....as I wrote earlier, it's very hard for me to "fix" a computer through written text, but I'm more than willing to help you even through private emails.

I'm a hands on type of guy, as most of us are in this forum, but I might be able to help you through email.

There are three religious truths: 1. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah. 2. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian faith. 3. Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store or at Hooters

Firefox will give your cat warts. If you don't have a cat, you should be okay.

On an XP system, you can't uninstall IE - it's part of the operating system, not a stand-alone program. You can disable it, but you can't uninstall it.

If one is unable to access certain sites, the fault is most certainly not with the browser. The first thing - and easiest - to check is the HOSTS file.

It is extremely bad practice to use anything from the Norton website, except their sooper-sekret removal tool. Norton is the barnacle of the software world; extremely difficult to remove.

Don't fall into the parochial trap. It's easy to hold to a "universal" set of beliefs when 5,000 people are singing from the same page in the hymnal.

There are more Catholics in Mexico City than Baptists who have ever lived.

I was thinking there most be some blocking file to prevent System Restore and Windows Update as well as the AV contact. Makes a lot of sense.

I found a HOSTS file in windows/system32/driver/etc but it has not been modified and there is no list of anything. Is there some other HOST file to find?

I eliminated any file that I could find with a date of 11/8, the day the malware installed itself, but it may have drug in a file with a different date.

I get that from my father, the editor. Who is not Mormon. Please don't draw "all Mormon" conclusions from a sample of one. Like I wouln't draw conclusions about "all computer owners" from some of the usenet lists.

No, there's only one HOSTS file (or should be only one). It's a list of IP addresses you wish to block. In fact, there are replacement HOSTS files (available via downloads) that will block oodles of dodgy sites.

Do your problems persist while in SAFE mode? (see Help)

Be careful about the warts. They may be the contagious kind.

Chris, I only pick on the beliefs of friends and family. Can I pick on you? I have Catholic, Jew, Southern Baptist, Southern Methodist, Druid and space aliens family members. I have a lot of Muslim friends but I only tease them when they're not holding long knives and hand grenades. I don't know what buttons to push in order to annoy Mormons. Perhaps you could help me. For instance, do people ask you how many wives you have and does this irritate you?

In my experience, it's almost impossible to irritate a Mormon. They're content to just keep on doing their thing: canning beets and riding bicycles.

Oddly enough, the CIA loves to recruit Mormons: Mormons don't drink, smoke, gamble, use drugs, or have any other really bad habits. They're usually quite fit and most already have foreign language skills as a consequence of their missionary work.

Does the CIA use white guys, in white shirt and tie, on bicycles to do undercover work? You obviously haven't met the Mormons who pose as Baptists or Norwegians :o)
