Home Depot Warning

Did I ever mention that in college I majored in animal husbandry until they caught me at it one day?

I realize Mormons are very rigid in their bizarre beliefs. I didn't know they had similar problems in everyday communications with people.

The use of "virii" indicates a certain level of ignorance and non-thinking. Call it parroting if you prefer. It is used by those who probably don't know much about the subject.

Sounds like your best recourse is to wipe the hard drive and reinstall all the programs. I like Darik's Boot and Nuke for this:

I suppose you're one of "The Chosen" and a practitioner of THE one and only true faith sanctioned by GOD. Why don't you really get nasty and call the guy a Democrat.

AntiVirus Pro is a particularly insidious bit of software and can be difficult to remove. Removal is, however, possible and straighforward.

Malwarebytes' "Anti-Malware" seems to be the most recommended by the folks at microsoft.public.windowsxp.general newsgroup:

BTDT. Good example of why you always want to spool off your data to a backup, and keep your distribution disks in good order. Sometimes the quickest cure is to Nuke and Reload. (Didin't Ridley say that in one of the alien movies? ...'nuke them from orbit- that is the only way we can be sure.')

I'll throw in a plug for PCTools antivirus and spam tool. $35 a year for a 3-machine license. Been running it for about a year and a half now, and (knock on plastic wood), no problems. And I probably am not the most careful internet browser. I had been using Symantec corporate under the free (but legal) license from work, but the later releases fought with XP so bad I finally said the hell with it.

Most employees dont care or dont understand. There business is selling you home improvement not keeping a windows box clean. The majority of boxes infected are used to shuttle spam, DOS attacks, Cracking other systems or boxes.

If your going to run a windows box then you might as well be prepared to spend ALOT of money on keeping it safe.

Most companies at the retail level dont bother. As long as the box does what its suppose to do they dont care.

The average windows box uses 30 % of its resources for virus related software alone. Not to mention that your anti-virus software comes complete with adware built in!

If you are upset about this then you should be investigating alternatives like Linux. Microsoft spends alot of time and effort spreading FUD about linux. But in my many years of experience I find it to be a true alternative to windows. I no longer run any windows boxes at home. I have saved ALOT of money and headaches.

I've always considered Linux the equivalent of a blow-up doll; I guess it's better than nothing, but it is certainly not the real thing (which, for some, is not a minus).

And, after many years of giving the sucker away for free, Linux has yet to achieve 1% of the installed desktop market.

Virii makes you sound more intellectual, though.

Not to worry. Every religion has a term to define non believers, and passages in their one true correct holy books that gives believers license to treat them like a dog. Infidel, Gentiles, pagans, etc.

Dude, you DON'T have to erase the HDD to reformat your computer!!!!!

If, Ed was my neighbor and I was able to get my hands on his computer I could remove whatever it is that he has, but telling someone what to do is very hard through writing. It is for me anyway.

How hard can it be? Just start hitting the delete and ok buttons.

Sheesh. Do I gotta tell you everything?

I had a Christian talk radio host tell me that Catholicism was a cult. I take umbrage when I see someone criticize another's religious background unless you're picking on Southern Baptists. You can tease them all you want.

The "Chosen" are not practitioners of the one, true faith. They were "chosen" to follow the commandments, not a particular set of beliefs (there is no "belief" test in Judiasm - you can be an athiest and still be a good Jew). The official Jewish position is that Christianity (in all its forms), is meritorious.

There is some ambivalence, however, about Democrats.

I do use McAfee Site Advisor, and have never really had a problem.

I?ll take a look at it, but I doubt I really need it.

All I know is that I have no fear of terrorists. As a small boy I had Irish nuns for teachers. Nothing can scare me or traumatize me after what I went through a half century ago. Besides I come from a multi species family. One side of the clan is Roman Catholic, Jew and space alien, the other side of the family is Southern Baptist, Southern Methodist, Druids and an odd bunch who worship some kind of fungus that glows in the dark. For that reason I have a right to pick on anybody because they are all my cousins.
