I am having a granite dining table built, about 9 ft by 4 ft. There will be a sheet of plywood underneath to attach the legs to. What kind of longitudinal and transverse support do I need? The support should be as non-visible as possible.
I am thinking of a spine down the center to provide longitudinal support. Is that enough? Or do I need support further from the center?

What method will be used to attach the legs? I fail to see how a "sheet of plywood" provides enough "material" for anything that resembles lateral support. Most tables have an apron and some sort of diagonal supports at the corners.
I think you need to provide some more details related to how the table is constructed before we can offer any help.
Of course, as Boris said: "...if you're having it built, wouldn't the builders know?" After all, you did say "I am having a granite dining table built." Doesn't built mean, well, *built*?
With what I've seen so far, I would not want to eat at that table. Anyone want a slab of granite landing on their lap?

We won't have to worry about that after we round up leftists and eradicate them. Considering what's coming down the road for the Brandon economy that happy day may not be far off. Round 'em up, cart them off to predetermined points around the country, eliminate them once and for all. Problem solved.
