Was watching t Jay Leno on YouTube about his Stanley Steamer. After they built a new boiler..after the old one blew up..it was quite fun watching him blowing his own horn at stop lights

The alternate explanation is that if illegal aliens were not doing these jobs at $8/hr, the pay rate would have to rise high enough so that Americans would do the jobs. If you had Americans getting paid $20 an hour to mow grass, we might actually be better off. That money would pay taxes and more of it would get spent here, as opposed to being sent back to Mexico.

So, you're in favor of open borders? Does that extend to folks from anywhere in the world? They should be allowed to come here in unlimited numbers?

There is the one story of the Russian fellow that came hunting in Canada. They were out hunting in the bush, when the Russian and his guide came across an Ojibwa running past a clearing. The guide shot the Indian. The Russian was shocked. The guide told him, it's okay we're allowed to shoot Ojibwas up here.

As they arrived back to their bush cabin, they spotted an Indian running away from the cabin with a six pack of beer. The Russian quickly sighted and shot the Indian. We had a lot of the Mexicans going home when the home building business crashed and Anglo boys did show up to do the work. They did not do as well and they could not actually work all day. "I'm hot", "I'm tired", "this is hard" and the customer still wanted the job at the same price. There are a lot of those jobs that you can't pay an American kid to do at all. My wife pays her cleaners $12 an hour (in right to work Florida) and the only ones who will actually do a decent job for that money are Latinos.

They can come here as long as there is work for them. The fact remains, US kids are not coming out of college, looking for a labor job. They all want to be hedge fund managers. I would have zero tolerance for alien criminals but I wish we could deport our home grown criminals too.

Wphew, man, I don't know if I ever knew the answer to that.

The '57s and '58s (I had one of each) were 4-speeds. Just before or just after the 1300 cc Guilietta morphed into the 1600 cc Guilia (1962), they changed to a 5-speed.

I don't know who made them.

Here's a deep-trivia bit for your collection. You can tell a '57 or earlier Guilietta from a '58 or later by the distributor drive gear. The earlier ones were bronze, and usually worn out, and the later ones are steel.

I put the engine from my '58 into my '57, and then swapped *that* out for a used Tom O'Brien Veloce race engine.

It didn't have much power -- maybe 80 hp stock. The Tom O'Brien race engine probably made 120 hp or a little more, though, which made it pretty lively. The car only weighed about 1700 pounds dry.

It was a good race car for a beginner because it was very stable and responsive, and it had a fair amount of understeer. With the O'Brien engine, it would just drift (in the classic definition of the term, not what the "drifters" call drifting today).

I loved it. I narrowed it considerably when I missed a shift (I had the stock gearbox with the synchro rings removed; very dicey), blew the engine, and hit a guardrail at the Old Bridge Speedway at around

90 mph.

Then I bought a new MG Midget Mk III, for $2,364, and raced that for a few years.
