Do I need to build support for the counter?

Apr 04, 2006 2 Replies

I'm planning to install base cabinets. In the end of a run I have a dishwasher and an end panel with a stile. I'll have Silestone countertop. So the question is whether the end panel itself will be enough to support the counter, or do I need to build special support?

Thanks. D

Being at the end, someone is likely to sit on the counter. I would add a

2x3(or 2x4) frame just behind the end panel for extra strength.

I have seen counters cantilevered with no support but I don't know how far you can go with Silestone. Probably not 30"

You need support.

I did a solid surface over hang and was told only 8 inches with out support underneath. I was told if anyone sat on the counter it would probably break.
