Delta Faucet and Sprayer issue

Hi all!

We bought a new house, and I have been trying to do as much home repair stuff myself as possible. In that vein, I recently did a full repair kit on my Delta ball type kitchen faucet, as it was leaking from the base and tap. It all went good. Next I decided to figure out how to fix the sprayer which doesn't work. Okay, so I replaced the diverter (which hadn't come with my original kit, or I would have changed it then), and now the sprayer is working - HOWEVER - the faucet still has water coming out as well. I bought a new sprayer just in case, but I don't know that that is the problem. The faucet is probably at least 10+ years old.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

~Lisa

: Sorry! Need to add that the faucet DOES shut off if I only lift the lever up half way, but the higher I raise it (and the more pressure I have), the more water comes out of the spigot while coming out of the sprayer as well.

I'll be watching this one. I talked to a guy at the plumbing shop yesterday about just this problem, with no useful suggestions.

I just called delta - they suggested two thing. (1-800-345-DELTA (3358) )

  1. Flush the diverter passages. Remove the diverter. Hold a bucket over the diverter hole to heep water in the sink. Turn on the water for a minute to flush it out. Re-assemble.
  2. Take apart the hose assembly. Soak the parts in vinegar to remove calcioum deposits. Re-assemble.

: Thanks for the tips from Delta, Bob!

Here is what I have just found. The Home Depot carries just the sprayer handles. I picked one up on a whim. When I swapped just the handle (gun), the spigot no longer ran water when I used the sprayer. Might be something to try! It was only $5 and change.

Finally figured this one out.

There was a rubber seal from an old diverter valve stuck in the valve assembly. I pulled it out with a bent toothpick, reassembled the unit, and it now works perfectly. This thing hadn't worked right since I bought the house 30 years ago.
