I would think storing the Christmas tress would be OK in the crawl space but am thinking the old papers and clothes could get moldy or otherwise damaged. OTOH I did store some stuff in my parents' attic while I was in college but we put heavier-duty plastic trash bags in the boxes, twisted the end and folded it over on itself then used the plastic twist ties to hold.
