I wholeheartedly agree with Clare. What's the negative to doing it twice a year? An extra $50 ? If the shop is any good they are going to have the luber gubers look around while there. How often does one do any kind of inspection under the car? Remember about that rock or curb you hit? Smooze up the shop. I have them check the oil every 2500 miles because my wife and I can't do it. Oil is like blood to an engine. If you're a quart low you don't feel good...

A large factor these days is the car Co's have reduced the times the techs get to fix issues, let alone diagnoses time. What the factory time allowed is very different for the time for a non warranty repair.

Ah, the joys of getting old. It may be time to switch to one vehicle. I have been there. It's tough. You may have to get rid of the truck because she may not be able to get in & out of it. I won't drone on. Been there, done that.

I believe Pennzoil Platinum is made from natural gas and gets good 'ratings' from all the xspurts. Whatever floats your boat~~~~.

As long as I can afford it , I won't give up my truck as long as I can get in and out of it. In the 14 years I have had it, I doubt the wife averages once a year in it. I make use of it atleast once a month as a truck to haul things in. Used it 3 times last week to get some large things from the Lowes store. Drive it more often to keep it 'limber'.

Before I could afford to get that truck I had an old junker that I paid $ 800 for. Half the time I wanted to use it, I had to charge the battery the day before. Just did not drive it enough to keep the battery charged.

According to the safety data sheet it is 90% Interchangeable low viscosity base oil (<20,5 cSt @40°C). Looks like a mixture of hydrocarbons from refined petroleum with a few other additives.

my car came with a separate maintenance with check boxes at the required intervals. I fill those out with the mileage, date, and the receipts. It's a pretty boring schedule -- change the oil and filter, rotate the tires every 5000 miles. The 2007 model called for new antifreeze at two years but they've even dropped that. Most of the rest is inspecting the boots etc. I mount the studs in November and take the off in the spring. I mark the tires and rotate them at that time. Close enough.

Yeah, my truck is semi-retired. It's licensed and insured but didn't make it out of the driveway last year. Then there's the three bikes. I try to rotate them. Last week was the V-Strom, next week the Sportster, and then the DR650.
