Briggs&Stratton standby generator

What does engaged mean? A load? What kind of load?

Also, do you let the engine warm up before kicking in the generator? Is the generator directly connected to the engine or is there some sort of driveshaft and clutch arrangement?

I made the mistake once many years ago of forgetting to turn the main breaker from the meter box off ... As soon as I flipped the switch to feed from the generator it would overload and die - because I was powering the whole neighborhood and then some .

My panel is set up such that you can't turn on the generator input breakers without turning off the main and vice versa.

Safety first!

Get the book that came with the nat gas kit and adjust the load block. That along with the regulator is what sets the mix. It usually doesn't take a lot of adjustment, a turn or so to make a whole lot of difference in the performance. My Briggs will run on propane at 100% of rated load but I adjusted the load block when it was running under almost full load. If the kit came from US Carburetion, they are real good on the phone.

Given that the title is "standby generator" and he says that it runs when offline and stalls when engaged, it sounds like it's a dedicated real standby generator, they don't have conversion kits

Given that the post came from homeownershub and, as usual, lacks a lot of detail, I wouldn't make any assumptions about it being a "dedicated real standby" generator.

I also wouldn't assume that we'll hear from the OP again.

There will still be a load block or similar device to set the mix between Nat Gas and Propane.
