Be careful where you put things.
I have a bottle of Turtle Wax, that I probably bought 7 years ago when I first bought my car and was enthusiastic about keeping it clean and shiny.
I don't think I've used it since the first month, and most of that time it's been sitting on a painted bookshelf.
Recently it was on the floor of the kitchen, but a couple days ago I put it on a wooden table in the kitchen. Everything was fine after 24 hours, but today, 48 or 72 hours in, I saw that though there had been an inch of liquid in the bottle, now there was almost nothing, but there was a puddle at the foot of the bottle, extending a few inches to the side, and then up the length of a pen that was on the table. I wiped it off but the table is much darker there.
The bottle was still standing upright, as it had been. It appears something in the varnish of the wood table ate a hole thorugh the plastic bottle.
A similar thing happened 30 years ago when I left a pair of swim goggles on a nice dresser upstairs in a bedroom. It ate through the "rubber" part of the goggles.
A dissimilar thing hpappened 20 years ago when I had a gallon bottle of distilled water in the basement for months, maybe on the cement floor, and everything was fine until I put it on the formica counter top in the kitchen. After only a day or so, the bottle leaked and soaked into the particle board that backs the formica, which then swelled. So now it's swell.
