The soil under my home is all sand to a depth of at least 12 feet. Is a plastic vapor barrier really needed? The only time I have moisture is when the plumbing develops a leak.

If I had 12 feet of sand under my house I'd be worried about the structural integrity. Are you sitting on deep poles?
Ed, in Florida we are all sitting on sand. With FEMA they have to truck in more of it and attempt to compact it. Typically it is about
300 yards of sand they truck in but 500 yards isn't uncommon if you are close to the water. A lot of home buyers need a separate loan, just to buy sand.Join the Discussion
