Adding Ceiling Fan

I want to add a ceiling to a Bedroom. There is a light switch that operates an outlet. I'd like to use it for a ceiling fan. The problem is there is only a small access panel in a closet. How can i do this project ?

The question AZ asked remains. Is there attic access for a human? What makes this confusing is your saying there is only a small access panel in the closet. But, access to what and if it's big enough for access for a human to the attic, who cares if it's small?

Whether you can easily use that switch to work the fan depends on how it is wired. If the wiring between the switch and the current outlet it controls is through the attic, then it's easy provided you are OK with both the outlet and the fan being controlled by the same switch. If not, it can still be done, but requires a little more work. You'd have to snake Romex down from the attic to the existing switch box for the fan. And you could convert the existing outlet to always on at the same time.

Another option is many fans today are installed using a remote only. That usually makes it very easy to wire. You only need to find a constantly on circuit to tap on to nearby in the attic. The remote turns the fan on and off. They also have wall mount holders that can hold the remote.

You are way over your head on this one. Hire a competent electrician and consider doing only home projects in which you have skills and training. Most journeymen can do in an hour what will take you a day or more of frustration. Price it out and then make the call.

Agreed - the OP doesn't seem to be knowledgeable enough to handle what could be a simple project or could turn out to be fairly complex due to problems mounting the fan and getting power to it.
