Our central AC went out this morning. Drain pipe is frozen up so it overflowed all over the hall carpet. I ran a 15' snake down it and the spouse followed with some drain cleaner. Seemed to help, some. Compressor is about 14 months old, a Rheem unit, which was installed after lightning took out the original. But the rest of the system is about 14 years old. We'll pul the covers off and re-clean the coils tomorrow. Money is VERY tight this month so if anyone knows any good (cheap) likely things to check I would be grateful.

Frozen like ice??
If so, you need a tech to see why. This can cause other major expenses.
They need to check for proper air-flow & charge. If the unit is low on charge after they look at the air-flow. (clean coil, clean filter, blower running, blower clean, etc, etc....) They need to find out where it is going and fix the leak!

Frozen? Drain line.. Not even possible. Never...not in your wildest imagination.
Clogged..yes.
Altho its not the best thing, Chlorox...any bleach..about a cupfull down it and wait about an hour, repeat, and then follow with about 2 gallons of water. Drain cleaner...about the one single worst thing to introduce to the line..
Seasonal service by a tech saves you money...
He said the drain pipe froze, so we know there is something wrong with the description, most likely the fact that the drain pipe did not freeze and it was clogged.
Waddya mean what the hell am *I* doing up? What the hell are you doing up seeing if I am up???
:)
Nah...lucky so far man...no pain. I even went and ran 3 ducts tonight on a spec house... Raining like hell tonight and tomorrow..I wont even thnk about getting out of here till about 5 in the afternoon...catching up on some paperwork...from almost 4 weeks ago..
