Goodman GMS 90904CX Furnace issue with squirrel cage/blower motor

I would appreciate any input on this.

The first week of December, we had a Goodman GMS 90904CX (90K BTU) furnace installed by a certified contractor. Our understanding was that this was one of the higher end models, and was supposed to be both efficient and reliable.

Within 3 days of installation, it developed a severe vibration which shook the floor on the entire 1st floor - along with a pronounced "helicopter" type sound from the ducts. It felt as though something were off center, out of round, or something along that line. Since that time, we have had the contractor out 4 times to check and make adjustments.

Yesterday (1/22/07) the contractor installed a new squirrel cage/blower motor assembly. The new one is much worse than the original.

He contacted his wholesale distributor, who told him that they were receiving similar complaints from other contractors, and that there was apparantly an issue with the squirrel cage/blower motor assembly.

Are there any other homeowners - or installers/contractors who are seeing this issue? My understanding is that this is a newer model?

Many Thanks again Mike Ratican

It is a documented problem and has a recall bulletin on the vibration problem. The squeaky wheel get the most grease...start complaining and bitching and you should get a new furnace. I don't know the cost of the replacement if any

I've not personally seen this issue, but then again I don't regularly install Goodman . In my opinion they are one of the lower end units out there. At least your installer is making a good faith effort to resolve your problem, after all, it's not HIS fault the thing came with a defective blower. Goodman should keep furnishing blowers till you get a good one because it IS under warranty.

Sounds to me like they have a supply of unbalanced blower wheels on their hands.
