And old metal sprinkler got whacked by the lawnmower. Didn't do either much good. The sprinkler/riser was metal and it broke off flush so no way to get a pipe wrench on it to remove it. Is there a way to get out the piece of the riser remaining, which BTW looks thoroughly rusted? If so, how's it done. Absent that I guess it's dig up the line a little and splice in a new section. TIA for any help. Vic

Use a hack saw blade and saw inside the broken piece in at least two or three places being sure to stop sawing before you get into the threads of the female coupling, than take a nail or some sharp pointed tool and punch the pieces toward the center, they should pop out.
