what's the best way to kill a tree. i have three more to cut down be for they do some really bad bamge to the nabbers. we cut one two years ago left a two foot stump to pull out. center of the tree is deid out side of the bark i have heave shoots coming up i've drilled put rock salt. no luck was thinking of that bio stuff that goes in to septic tanks. please no chemicals...that stump out in a can did not work.... lary

what kind of trees are they? why did you leave a stump if you weren't going to pull it out? was it rotten inside? to get rid of the stump, cut it level with the ground. the stump remover in a can is not an instant cure. it still takes years to decay. the "bio stuff" for septic tanks won't do anything for the stump. are you getting resprouting from the roots or the stump? just keep cutting the sprouts back. it sometimes takes a year or two to use up the reserves of certain trees, like cottonwoods. you just have to keep cutting the shoots off/down. lee
If you do not want to use a herbacide, then you can just keep cutting the suckers off. It will die after a few years.
Hire a professional to cut the tree, make a nurse log out of the trunk. Plant some flowers in it.

Cut the stump off at 2 inches, rent a stump grinder.
