Saltwater tank dumped out on the azeleas

So my lovely and favored daughter decided to be helpful and clean out the crab tank today, and relocate it. She has done a lovely and brilliant job - with one notable exception.

She decided that it would be a good idea to dump all of the saltwater and live-sand from the red-algae-encrusted tank onto the azaleas at the side of the house. Unfortunately she didn't tell me of this plan until after it was complete.

From what I can gather from the web, saltwater will kill plants – especially these.

Should I be worried about these gorgeous azaleas? If so, how long do you think it will take for them to be affected? It was a 10 - gallon tank. Is there something I could do to help the situation like maybe spreading fertilizer and doing some constant watering/flushing?

Any and all help and advice will be very much appreciated.

I would start by praising your daughter for trying to help. Seriously, I don't remember mine ever to volunteer to clean my aquarium!

But as far as the effects of 10 Gallons of salt water from a saltwater aquarium, I don't think you can do anything beyond thoroughly watering the plants. It is an equivalent of spreading about 3 pounds of salt around the plant, but I would think that if the water has somewhere to go in the soil, it would quite literally water it down pretty quickly.

I would not add any other chemicals, just water thoroughly. Azaleas are somewhat salt tolerant, so hopefully 10 gallons of salt water, after watering them down, would not create concentration enough to kill the plant.

Good luck!
