Growing tomatoe plants upside down

Im fairly new to gardening, and this may be a stupid question, but howdo you grow tomatoe plants upside down ? how does the plant and dirtstay in hanging upside down ? Also living in Washington state, wouldthis be a good climate to grow them like this ? What is the besttomatoes for this area ? thanksEd

You let them hang over the edge of a bucket of soil/hydroponic stuff/etc.
