Hi, I am in the process of tiling my en-suite, floor to ceiling. Have put up coving and am wondering if it is best to tile right up to the coving or leave a grouting gap? Not sure which would look better or what is 'normal'.
TIA

You'll struggle to tile "right up to the coving". Leave a grouting gap it will be easier and will look 'normal'.

Thanks John.
Wouldn't it have been better to tile first and then put up the coving? (not very helpful, sorry.)

Peter, Not so sure about that!!! Can't see why it would be better or easier? Unless you mean tile to the ceiling and cove over the tiling, but I haven't heard of that being done. Can you explain?
Ian
Yes, tile to the ceiling. Gets rid of the need to cut the top tile. After all, what would you do if 'her indoors' asked for coving in an already tiled room. I did this last time and the finish looks great. It creates a neater line and the bottom lip of the coving doesn't 'disappear'.
P
Ah, I understand. Yes the bottom lip of my coving will 'disappear' (almost). The other half wont be asking for any more coving as all rooms are now done (Yipee) but I see your point. Too late for me, but out of interest, what adhesive do you use to bond to the tiles, a standard coving advesive or a tiling adhesive?
Ian
Spotted the tile face with gripfill and smoothed with coving adhesive. Finished with decorators caulk, and painted with masking tape on the tiles.
