Ticking noises in central heating system

Hi,

We moved into our 30 year old house in January. The pipe entering the radiator in the lounge makes ticking noises when the heating is on, I guess in tandem with the central heating pump running. The ticks are 1-2 a second and it lasts for up to a couple of minutes. Really irriatating, as you can hear it throughout the room.

Four months' back I also had a combi boiler fitted, and the pipes in the room next door to the boiler also make the same kind of ticking noise. Again same frequency and duration. In this case I think it may be that there's some expanding foam around the pipes, that may be making the noise (your thoughts?) but again, you ca hear it clear and loud.

What can be causing this? and what can I do to stop it?

Might be worth dusting the areas with talcum powder as lubicant. TonyB

Thanks everyone,

I'll check the pipe/floorboards for unwanted contact.
