cement

i want to brick up the ventilation holes which was in place when the old boiler was there, i know you got to put the brick in and let certain amount for the plaster to be there, but how do you mix the cement with sand, is it more sand than cement or half half mix or more cement than sand?

For what you are doing I reckon a mix of about 4:1 should do - that's 4 parts of 'building' sand to 1 of cement.

You may find a little fairy liquid will help to plasticise the mix, but only a little as it will weaken it otherwise. Probably one or two teaspoons in a gallon bucket of mix should do it.
