When building a fireplace, is it nesc to pitch the back of the firebox wall?

Go to the Technical Notes section and click on section 19 in the left hand frame.

Those are very good drawings but keep in mind that it is important to lean the back wall in but in a straight line. Don't roll the wall in a curved way or you will get a lot of smoke every time.
