I have a drawstring from a pair of workout pants wrapped around the agitator of my Amana Washer Model LW3502L2. I need to get the string off

I have cut the string to get the pants out of the washer but I am fearful to use it again and get the remaining string wrapped further around the bottom of the agitator. HELP!
