Finally solved the miserable bowl loading issue in my Bosch 300

Bought a Bosch 300 a few months back and spent the first month cursing the rack setup. Cleans better than any machine I've ever owned, but whoever engineered those middle and lower racks clearly assumes people only eat off flat dinner plates. Half our daily dishes are wide soup bowls and thick mugs, and they just slumped against each other awkwardly. Took a gamble last week and ordered the folding-tine insert row from the 800-series parts diagram to see if it woud snap into my 300 rack. Turns out the vinyl clips line up right on the center wire runner without any modification. Being able to lay that inner row completly flat opened up enugh room for eight deep cereal bowls without them crowding the glassware. Cost me about thirty-five bucks and saved my sanity.

I had that exact same bowl headache with our 300 series. We use wide, shallow pasta bowls from Crate & Barrel that measure about nine inches across, and they simply refused to stand upright in the factory bottom rack. They woud just flop forward like dominoes and nest tightly against each other, so the insides never got properly washed. Instead of ordering the 800 tines, I ended up ditching the stock lower cutlery basket completly. We allready had the top third rack for silverware, so removing that bulky basket opened up the entire right perimeter where the tine spacing is slightly wider. I also used a pair of pliers wrapped in heavy electrical tape to gently nudge two of the stubborn corner tines out by about a quarter of an inch so the bowl rims coud acutally drop down to the base wire. It takes a little trial and error, but clearing out that floor space made a huge difference for our daily rotation. It seems like nearly every Bosch owner has to invent thier own custom loading geometry just to deal with regular soup and cereal bowls.

I went a completley low-tech route and didn't buy any replacement parts. We use heavy Fiestaware rim soup bowls that are nearly two inches deep, and they were constantly wedging into the bottom rack tines and choking off the lower spray arm rotation. My fix was moving all the deep bowls up to the middle rack instead. I clicked the Rackmatic levers to drop that basket down to the middle position, wich left just enought overhead clearance under the third cutlery tray for our pint glasses on the left while letting the bowls sit angled along the right-hand side. The tine spacing on the middle rack of the 300 actually has a wider pitch than the dense bottom rows, so the bowls tilt at roughly a 45-degree angle without kissing each other. That left the bottom rack completely open for flat dinner plates, cutting boards, and stockpots, which actually fits our nightly dinner cleanup alot better. It felt weird putting big ceramic bowls up top at first, but the wash coverage up there has had zero trouble blasting out dried oatmeal or chili residue.

Wait, you can just order 800 series inserts and snap them right in?! That blows my mind, I had no idea the parts were that interchangeable across models! I literally just created an account here because we bought our first Bosch last week and I've been obsessing over setup tricks. Quick question a bit off-topic though—has anyone tested if that deeper 'MyWay' third rack from the top-tier models can fit into a 300, or does it crash into the ceiling spray arm? I have a ridiculous amount of tiny espresso cups and ramekins that I'd love to tuck up there!
