How do I vent my Danby 12k dual hose through a permanent wall port?

I just picked up that 12,000 BTU Danby inverter unit from Costco for my workshop beacuse I relly needed the dual hose setup to keep the air pressure balanced. The problem is that I don't want to use the window kit at all since it’s a security risk in my shop, so I'm trying to figure out a way to run it trough permanent ports in the wall instead. The accordion hoses that come with it are kind of a nightmare and they look pretty flimsy for a long-term setup. I've been looking at the back of the unit where the hose-in-hose connector snaps in, and I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to bypass those stock hoses. Is there a trick to removing them from the original mount so I can build some kind of custom adapter? I'm worried about restricted airflow if I mess with the diameter too much, but those stock plastic tubes just aren't going to work for my space. If anyone has modified thier DPA120 model for a fixed wall vent, I'd love to know what materials you used to get a tight seal at the back of the machine.


The stock hose-in-hose connector on that Danby unit is held together by a series of plastic clips and a bit of adhesive sealant that you can pry apart with a thin flathead screwdriver. Once you pop the outer housing open, the accordion hoses are basially just friction-fit and glued into the collars. If you're careful, you can strip those flimsy tubes out entirely and you'll be left with the base plate that snaps into the back of the AC unit. This is your foundation for a custom manifold.

Most people doing this in a shop enviornment end up using a 3D printed adapter or a custom-cut piece of PVC to bridge the gap between that proprietary base plate and standard 6-inch rigid ducting. Since the Danby uses a concentric hose design, you have to ensure the intake and exhaust paths stay completly isolated inside your custom box. If they leak into each other, you'll short-circuit the airflow and the compressor will overheat or short-cycle. I've seen success using **insulated flex duct** for the run to the wall ports to minimize heat bleed back into the room.

For the wall side, you shold look at standard 6-inch dryer vents or louvers, but make sure they don't have restrictive screens that will choke the static pressure. These inverter units are sensitive to airflow resistance. If you go too small on the diameter or use too many elbows in your ducting, the unit will throw an error code because it can't move enought air over the condenser coils. Keeping the runs as short and straight as possible is the way to go. I used high-temp **aluminum foil tape** to seal my custom adapter to the Danby base plate. It's much more durable than duct tape and handles the heat coming off the exhaust side without the adhesive turning into a gooey mess. Once you've got it hard-piped through the wall, the performance is night and day compared to those leaky plastic hoses. It actualy keeps the shop pressurized correctly and cuts down on the noise floor significantly since you don't have those thin plastic walls vibrating.

I'd skip the flex stuff and go with Master Flow rigid aluminum ducting. Those Danby inverter units are picky about static pressure, and the smooth interior of rigid pipe helps a ton. I used it for a similar wall-mount mod and the cooling felt way more consistent.

Make sure you grab some Nashua 324A foil tape for the seams. It’s the only stuff that doesn’t peel off after a few weeks of exhaust heat. If you need a clean finish on the outside, the Seiho SFZ aluminum hoods are perfect because they don't have those restrictive flaps that kill your CFM.

This sounds like a great project but I'm a total newbie and a bit nervous about prying things apart. If I use that 6-inch rigid ducting you mentioned, how do I actualy connect it to the wall? Do I need two seperate holes in the side of my shop or is there a way to keep it as one big hole like the original hose? I'm also worried about bugs or rain getting in if I don't use the window kit. Is there a specific type of exterior vent that works best for these without making the AC work too hard?
