My LN dovetail saw

Sighhh.....

My LN Independence dove tail saw that I bought about 14 months ago needs a touch up sharpening. Sometime in the next day or two I will break out that xxslim taper file and have a go at it. I've sharpened other saws with varying degrees of success, but I'm a bit concerned about his one. :-)

I suppose if I mess it up, I will send it back to them and get them to fix it.

If, as you say, you are not completely capable of sharpening a hand saw this $125 beauty is not one I would practice on. Just my $0.02.

I agree with you. However, I did it quite successfully earlier today. LN enclosed instructions for sharpening with the saw. I have a magnifying lamp on the work bench. I just had to get my courage up to work on the saw because I am so fond of it. I am curious if other wood workers that have saw do sharpen their saws themselves.

I did not need to adjust the set on the saw and I wouldn't . I do have a fine saw set though that I use on lesser back saws.

I have a gents saw that has such fine teeth, I used a warding file on it. It was worthless, but adjusting the set and taking the bright points off the teeth made it a good saw...

I've been playing with sharpening saws for about a year now.

The only place I found the xxx slim taper files was Lee Valley. IIRC, the saw set came from Highland Hardware.
