Is a link belt as beneficial on a jointer as it is on a table saw?

YES (assuming you have vibration issues on the jointer of course, its worth a shot)

Yep. Wanna try it on a lawnmower just to see what happens. Just don't happen to own a lawnmower; have next door kids.
