Help, What color should I do my crown Molding?

I am finishing up my bedroom. The walls are olive green, the baseboards and door trim are colonial oak maybe? A little more darker than oak, so I am not 100% sure what they are. The ceiling is white.

I am going to do crown molding, and was wondering what color I should do. I can go and get white crown molding, and begin to put it right up. That would be perfect because I would not have to worry about staining, clear coating, etc.

However, I am wondering how it would look with oak baseboards and oak door trim. Would it look nicer to do the baseboards in a lighter wood, which I can do rather easy, a darker wood, which I can do rather easy, or white which I can do very easy. My problem lies in that I will just frustrate myself to no end trying to match the stain of my baseboards, and just looking for some designer advice.

Thanks, Ron

Well, crap, if you've gotta ask, the answer is obvious - Purple.

Screw purple. That too common. The real answer is pink and yellow.

I'd go with the whitest white ("Titanium White"?) you can get. Whiter than the white on the ceiling, so you'll have some visual differentiation / interest. Will compliment whatever color the walls become over time as owner preferences change.

I wouldn't be concerned that the molding will "clash" with the wood molding and door/window trim, as, (to me), they're seperate detail elements.

But if you're concerned, it should be relatively painless to do up a sample corner and tack it up in place to give you an idea. Select a corner nearest one of your all-wood-trimmed doors to give the best visual representation of what the whole room will look like when you're done.

Have you considered painting _all_ your trim and moldings white? I'm a believer that wood should look like wood, but moldings and trim fall into another category for me. I'm a huge fan of bright white for all molding and trim because it makes _everything_ else in a design scheme really stand out. White trim even makes, imo, all-solid-wood doors look better than natural wood trim does.

My 2 cents, and (really) no flames intended.

Ask a silly question . . .

This is NOT rec.interiordecorating. This is a group of people who like to manufacture sawdust.

BTW - olive green and dark wood trim? Cheery little room, isn't it.

Hey, I'm not the one asking someone else to make up my mind for me. You ask a stupid question, you get stupid answers. Especially here. LMAO

Well, you have to admit - a question that asks "what color should I paint my crown molding", of a bunch of total strangers, does beg a least a few wise ass replies. It was sort of a silly question.
