Roof tiles made of bitumen?

The big advantage is they are very light so a minimal roof structure is needed. Quick to install. Apart from that, they are shit. Especially if the house catches fire. Burns like a torch. Also proper tiles/ slates last for more then a hundred years, these last a couple of decades.

They burn well in a fire too.

And how many times have you seen Homer fall off the roof/smash a finger etc whilst fitting these "tiles"?

Isn't the roof structure quite sturdy to be strong enough to hold itself and the ceiling up anyway? The weight of the tiles can't be much more.

US houses are total shit compared with any European country. Only fit for demolition in twenty or thirty years. Very poor energy performances are the norm there too.

Wrong.

Any unmaintained building will be.

BULLSHIT.

Episode 233: Where Harry demonstates no working knowledge of the idea of different countries having different climates and different housing needs.

Holy shit Harry. This is ignorant, even by your standards.

Doesn't matter, energy is cheaper in a country that isn't overcrowded.

A few years back I took the opportunity to walk round a construction site in the US. Construction standards were total crap. Both design and workmanship. It was all about appearance.

Now go and walk around any given building site in the UK.

Then try to reconcile what you say about US standards with their needs in winter in cold places, and their needs in summer in hot places.

Or indeed, both. It is presently over 100 deg F in Central Pennsylvania, where my mother lives, and they had over 40" of snow last winter.
