OT: Vulcan!

Finally managed to see it today and I only had to walk a few hundred yards from my front door.

Bloody impressive - my first view was it passing the end of the street and just blotting out the sky. And a nice noise!

The Typhoon was good too. And the Stearman - always wanted to see one of those in action.

If you were stationed on an RAF station where they were based perhaps you would have a different opinion. Especially if it was foggy when the engines were under test, the noise was, well noisy!

I would love to be there.

I did hear that the old Gladiator had an engine incident on the runway at Biggin Hill yesterday. Brian

Many years ago when I was in the air cadets we were at an air display at RAF Leuchars.

Saw the Vulcan do a low (seemed at 10 feet but memory etc) flypast right over (FSVO) the crowd(pre-Ramstein) and it was VERY impressive and noisy. God of fire indeed.

Broadback scribbled

Reminds of the moaning bastards who moved to West Kingsdown in Kent and complained about the noise from Brands Hatch circuit, which had been there for 30 years before they arrived.

Quite possibly the estate agents fault "yes it is close to Brands Hatch but you can't hear it" . Then the buyers visit on a non track day so do not hear what it is really like.

C.F. People who visit on a Sunday not realising that there is a school just around the corner and the kids all use that street to get to the school and all the adults attending evening classes and...

Moral of this story visit many different times/days and talk to locals before investing what is a HUGE amount of money.

Yes, and don't take anything an estate agent says on trust.

And the Vulcan first flew only 11 years after the first Lancaster flight, apparently. Certainly makes you think about how we used to be able to get things done in the UK!

On 15 Aug 2015, Bob Eager grunted:

And in more news for vintage warbird fans:

"45 Spitfires, Hurricanes and Blenheim for Battle of Britain Day Flypast" - Goodwood Aerodrome, 15 September. I'd almost cancel the holiday I have booked then to be able to see that...

The same happened to Laguna Seca near Monterey.

I managed to see the Vulcan a few weeks ago, when it did its tour.

And a friend of mine used to own a Stearman rebuilding business. He has now retired, and owns a micro-light instead.
