No problem,do come back for hint&tips on plastering.
I have been a traditional plasterer for over 30 yrs this is why I decided it was time to give something back, in return as I have posted previously, I run a forum that is friendly with loads of answers to many questions and a chatroom too, I also incorporated a mod that allows the uploading of photographs just in case anyone cannot explain properly their problem. The DVD set includes a beginners DVD, everything the newcomer needs to know, a skimming DVD - nothing but skimming, bonding coat and skim over thick artex and a hardwall, dot and dab, bead and skim DVD, they have had superb reviews so far so obviously do the trick.
However having said that we lost a child not so long ago and 50% of the proceeds go to our local special baby care unit, its the least we can do to help others get through it..

Thing is you didn't have to mention(promoting)your DVD's on here. The URL could have done that for you.
I'm not happy with your remark that training establishments should be closed down because you think they are a bismal to the learner which again is you promoting yourself to getting revenue for your DVD's.
Let me state my case. I have been in the building business with my own firm for 40 odd years. There are certain things you learn along the way as follows:
1 There are always two sides to every story. 2 you can always get it cheaper 3 Always carry out a job like you would expect it yourself. 4 Never trust a customer. 5 never get involved in other builder's disputes. 6 You only get what you pay for.And with the last item I can say that people always go for the cheapest price. Now that is okay if it is buying an item like a car or telly, but when it comes to skills or craftsmanship then this costs money.

I think you are wasting your time with the earl of IMM. Perhaps you aught to add the 7th idiom: Don't answer a fool according to his foolishness, answer a fool according to his foolishness.
I haven't looked for that remark, but it certainly doesn't bare out my experiance, nor that of a number of friends. We've found the plastering training courses run by local technical/building colleges to be superb, which is why I have often recommended them here. I'm sure there are some bad ones, but I haven't heard of them. I know the colleges do have problems finding plasterers (indeed any of the building trade skills) who are capable of teaching which is the reason it's difficult to get on a course, and when they do get a good teacher, you have to book up to a year in advance (or take a short notice cancellation).
I didn't mention anything about closing any training establishments?
As far as tra>
"The more I see of this type of behaviour the more I want to tear them all down, it's absolutely ridiculous. I was talking to an old friend the other day and he is of the same opinion in as such that these "so-called" plastering courses are nothing but a smokescreen with which to earn huge amounts of money!! Like I told Neil (Bluemoon) it is a pleasure and a priviledge to be able to teach someone properly and what's more I now know that Neil will be far more confident as a result and I only spent ONE day with him!"
Thanks for that - loads of good information by the looks of it!
How does one order these?
Visit the forum and you'll find out.
Thank you for bothering.
A nice resource.
I did, and it was not immediately obvious, hence why I asked.
You completely mis-interpret my post, I don't like those large 1 week plastering courses mainly because people come away absolutely clueless. Whether it be right or wrong I can teach plastering with an ease and fluidity mainly because of the knowledge and years of experience in the trade. Neil as you eloquently quoted is in fact a friend of mine whom I met through my forum, he asked me if I could pop in and sort him out as he was at his wits end! He had also recently finished a weeks plastering course and was totally confused, he also said, and I quote "It was a total waste of £450!!" I wish I knew you before I went on that course (Yorkshire school of plastering) I have learnt more in one day than I did in 5! As you can see, obviously the proof of the pudding is in the eating, need I say more?

The course I did at the Aldershot Building Centre ~5 years ago was £70 for 2 days, and was excellent. The teacher (Bob Stut, or Strut, or something like that) also did a 5 day course, and the full City & Guilds course with exam, and he was a brilliant teacher. He was also one of their bricklaying course teachers. Someone else here did the same course, I think on my recommendation, and also thought it was brilliant.
Aldershot Building Centre (which was inside the army grounds) has since moved to a large new building trades teaching college. I can't remember the name, but it's part of Farnborough College of Technology (as was the former Aldershot Building Centre). I did a bricklaying course there recently which was excellent, but I happen to know they didn't have a plastering teacher at the time, so I suspect Bob has retired.
Yes, seconded, and a resource that I'll reference in the FAQ. Nice one Dave.
