Floor tiling

Hi,

I think I know what the answer will be but I thought I'd ask anyway. Basicaly I currently have a kitchen floor (partly due to moving a wall) that is part concrete (uneven) part (I think) lino tiles (these are probably original dating back to when the house was built, 1971) on the concrete (some sort of rubbery ahesive underneath), part vinyl? (they have a pattern) tiles over the orig lino and finally part thicker ceramic tile laid over the vinyl/lino/concrete.

I suspect the answer will to take back to the concrete, fill the larger holes/dips and then apply a self leveling compound. Prior to laying new tiles (not certain what yet - probably ceramic or stone). If so any tips for getting the old stuff off and does every last trace have to come off?

Alternatively is it possible (and sensible) to remove just the ceramic tiles and apply some sort of leveling compound over what remains of the lino/vinyl?

Cheers

Jim

I'd do a trial to see how well the compound stuck to the existing surface. Certainly the "latex" types are pretty accommodating in this respect
