extraordinarily shite CFLs - Memolux from Coopers of Stortford

We got a bunch of "daylight balance" CFLs from Coopers of Stortford. We'd seen these in Turkey (where they're about as common as the older type of spectrum) but they aren't widely available in shops in the UK, so we ordered them from Coopers of Stortford.

The type is "Memolux MEM412 6500K Cool Day Light", with a code number EFU-MB20W-B22.

Half the consignment has failed within minutes of being plugged in. I have just had four in a row fail on me.

Their spectrum was nothing like daylight either - far too green. The Turkish ones are vastly better.

I guess we just stock up next time we're in Turkey. I'm certainly never going to order anything from Coopers again.

Sure there're the right voltage ones?..

What did Coopers have to say on it, did you give them a chance to comment or put it right?..

Not sure why it would be the retailers fault, Have you complained about the lamps ?

You should be entitled to a full refund.

Jack Campin:

The ones you buy in Turkey will have been made in the same Chinese factory as the ones you bought from Coopers.

anyone is to blame it is the Chinese, I don't think that Coopers would knowingly buy and sell faulty goods.

Turkey has been a major source for lightbulbs in the recent past. If they aren't still making them, their retailers must be imposing very much higher quality standards on their Chinese source than Coopers do. The difference in spectrum is absolutely obvious - the Coopers ones are nothing remotely like black-body, whereas the Turkish ones are as good as any full-sized daylight fluorescent tubes I've seen. (I have a daylight balance CFL which I got in a charity shop in Scotland and use in the desklamp beside this computer which is about as good - brand name "Knight" with no model number printed on it - but I've no idea where to buy another one).

Of course they're not, nor would one want a black body light-bulb.

That's what an incandescent filament is.

That's what the sun is.

Both have been proven reasonably acceptable.

Not sure why you sent this 3 times. Have you complained to your ISP?

I want a refund for wasted bandwidth.
