De Dietrich nightmare

This may be an Irish-only problem, but we had great difficulty getting our DeDietrich fan oven mended. The problem was that the thermostat had stopped working.

The official DeDietrich service engineer spent 3 months - yes, 12 weeks - trying to get the correct thermostat. As far as one could make any sense of the saga, DeD Ireland, DeD UK and DeD France are not on speaking terms, and refuse to send parts to one another.

In the end we got an intellectual non-DeDietrich specialist, who put in a Belling thermostat which seems to be working perfectly. He told us that Siemens-Bosch were by far the best people to deal with; he puts in an order for a part online, and it arrives 2 days later. According to him, DeDietrich never reply to email, and it is impossible to get anyone competent on the phone.

I concluded that it was in fact completely unnecessary to get the exact thermostat for this particular oven. And I decided never to buy a DeDietrich device again.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember Timothy Murphy saying something like:

Exactly. You'd be surprised at what fits what.

Sound move. I too have run afoul of the DeD spares fiasco.
