In the old days without computers, I suspect it would take even more time for checking the records. Anyway, with terrorism in the picture, it might take even more time....

I really don't know much about the approval process within the immigration department though.

Figure mailing it in takes 2-3 days, return trip is, at least it was earlier this year, by USPS Priority Mail so that's another 2-3 days which leaves 9-11 days for processing. Considering it's the government, that's not bad at all. It didn't take us much longer than that for original passports even though we were warned it could be a month or so.

Is it just a coincidence that you left "9-11" days for processing?

Here, in Texas, when I sent off the paperwork for my LTC (License To Carry) they said to allow six weeks for processing. I got my LTC back in five weeks and four days. I would venture to guess that more people have passports than gun permits.
