Besides environmental pollution, and the potential of creating toxicity in previously healthy plants, GMOs can give rise to:

allergic reactions, like when Brazil nut genes are spliced into a soy plant or just the weird proteins that are made when two sets of biological machinery are jammed together.

antibiotic resistance, antibiotic markers used in gene splicing could lead to creation of antibiotic resistant bacteria. This when hospitals are already running into more and more resistant bacteria.

immunosuppression, in 2000 a researcher in England (Dr. Pusztai) discovered that rats that ate Bt potatoes showed detrimental effects on their organ development, body metabolism, and immune function.

nutrient value, genetic modification can change nutrient levels of fruits and vegetables.

The important fact here is that FDA scientists have warned the FDA of all these potential problems but the FDA has ignored their staff's warnings. At least 60% of processed foods have GMO ingredients in them and the FDA will not order them to be labeled.
