I’ve been dealing with a few situations recently where water damage turned out to be more serious than it initially looked, especially when moisture spread behind walls and under flooring.
I wanted to ask what’s the best approach before starting repairs to make sure everything is properly handled?
From what I understand, a few things seem really important:
Removing standing water as quickly as possible
Proper drying (not just using fans, but full dehumidification)
Checking for hidden moisture inside walls and subflooring
Removing any materials that have absorbed water (drywall, insulation, etc.)
Making sure mold doesn’t develop later
One thing I’ve noticed is that if drying isn’t done properly, problems show up later even if everything looks fine on the surface.
Curious to hear how others here handle this any tips or things to watch out for?
