do you have a Makro card? If so, check out their stuff - just got bamboo flooring for 14.99 m2 (plus VAT and they also had solid oak for similar price. Goes as soon as a delivery comes in though - builders buy up the whole delivery so you have to keep phoning and get there as soon as it arrives.

Somehow I doubt that. Even oak veneer is usually around the £20 mark. Solid oak usually starts at ~£30.

The local "German Wood Flooring" shop down the road in Hampton was selling rustic grade european oak boards (5" ish) for IIRC £23 (+ vat I think) per sq mtr. I have just laid exactly the same stuff (paid about a fiver per sq m more for it, but that was before the offer started, so don't feel I've missed out..) & it looks wonderful.

I think that you can also get overlay boards, these sound like the 7mm ones in wickes. they were substantially cheaper than the 22mm thick standard boards, but of course need a stable, flat subfloor.

if they're FSC or whatever compliant, then that's a damned good price.

I've been in there a few times and bought finishing products from them, and ISTR that the owner does know his onions.

Seems like I don't need to rush down to Wickes and buy n[1] packs of stuff to clutter up the house with for ages until I get the next Round Tuit comes along ;-)

Even if you have a round tuit available immediately, "ages" has to be at least 2 weeks, and preferably 4, according to the Wickes information leaflet. Does it REALLY take that long for the product to become acclimatised?
