Why is my shower leaking?

The shower on the first floor is leaking slightly, causing water to drip into the kitchen below, through a crack in the plaster.

I'm wondering what the likely cause of the leak is; I assume it is somewhere in the drainage from the shower, since the shower itself has a single base (plastic or ceramic) which does not seem to be damaged in any way.

I've asked the plumber who installed the shower to have a look, but I'm wondering meanwhile (he is on holiday) if it is likely that I can solve the problem in some simple way.

Run the shower directly into the drain for a few minuets to prove that. With mine it is hairline cracks in the wall tile grouting.

Is the silicone seal between the tray & the wall OK? That would be my first thought, second would be the waste.

Depends whther the leak is constant or just when /soon after the shower has been used

If constant it could also be a leak on the feed pipes

That was my third thought :-)

No, I should have said the leak only occurs after a shower is taken. But thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion - I should have tried that. Hopefully it is hairline cracks in the grouting, as you suggest.

Luca the plumber promises to come tomorrow. He installed the shower, so maybe will feel he has to mend it for nothing ...
