Which printer to buy for cheap compatible inks?

Your luck may not last - I started this thread because two Epson inkjets stopped working having used compatible cartridges. The Canon inkjets I had before were fine with compatibles. Epson has possibly the worst reputation of all.

I have my Land Rover Defender serviced by a local independent. Uses the same genuine parts out of a Land Rover box at about 2/3 price charged by main dealer and labour is less than half. Being doing this for about 18 years.

Years ago (50s/60s) black ink was notorious for clogging fountain pens. ISTR Swan was the big brand name for fountain pen ink in those days.

My Epsom insisted on issuing a warning message and waiting for an acknowledgement every time I started to print with compatible cartridges.

OTOH many years ago, I told the wife of a friend that her car didn't *have* the brake shoes her 'little man' was charging her for. It only had brake pads. She refused to believe me, in fact became (unusually for her) a little hostile. About a year ago, I bumped into the friend, who mentioned that a now-grown son was knowledgeable about things mechanical and wouldn't stand for any nonsense from car repair people. I said nothing, but something about his look told me that we both remembered the 'brake shoe' incident!

I have always had HP printers ... they are very reliable ... but do not get the 4 ink machines cart (i.e C410 all in one) - even XL cart size are very low capacity, and high consumable cost.

I was working as a freelance at that time and taking time off work to attend a small claims court too much hassle.

I have two that have died, which rather puts me off the brand.

It has been a useful thread, I did not realise that laser printers could be bought so cheaply and I do suffer from blocked inkjet printer nozzles. I quite fancy a colour Wifi (or wired) laser printer

I have touch wood yet to have one fail on me. I have generally bought something relatively cheap but industrial strength relying on the fact that these remaindered ugly brutes tend to be cheap if you have the space to accommodate them. I don't much like all in one devices.

laser or inkjet?

Only reason my old laser jet died was that the cat pissed in it.

pretty happy with my NETWORKED laserjet CP1525n

Apart from being a bit iffy about picking up envelopes, its pretty good.

toner drums cost a bit though.
