Which extractor pipe for new cooker hood

I've brought a canopy cooker hood only.

Reading through the manual it says

"either use 125mm ducting OR a filter (available seperately)"

I am keen to get the smell out of the house.

Looking through TLC there are thousands of options. If I run the flat ducting, can it just sit over the top of the kithcen units leading to outer wall ?

any specific recomendations please

Don't bother with filtering (ie recirculating) - mainly because the filters don't last any time at all and cost a fortune to replace.

Hard to be specific without knowing your exact scenario; however the general idea is to get from the hood to the outside wall using as directly as possible; ie largest cross-sectional area you can make it (and a smooth round bore is better than a rectangular, concertina section as it disrupts airflow less); minimum number of bends; shortest possible distance. If it has to be flat ducting over the kitchen units then so be it (you'd normally box in the area with the ducting behind).

Oh yes, and have the ducting tilting slightly towards the hole in the wall to discourage condensate and any incoming rainwater from pooling inside.

Lots of stuff in the newsgroup archives on all this.

ok, will have a google search through the groups

all searches so far I found were for bathrooms. hence the post.

Rigid plastic is best I take it

I used Osma drain (above ground, grey), there's a huge variety, cheap.

Absolutely. You don't need much of a fall, though - and, while it hasn't happened to me, I have seen horrible drips of gunge running down walls under extractor outlet grilles...

What keywords have you used in your search?

Try this one for starters...

try 'ducting'... etc etc

This has been covered quite a lot over the years...
