Vinyl Weld

I remember an add on TV some years back which showed how simple it was to repair a tear in Vinyl upholstery, just use the clear Vinyl Weld and job done.

Anybody know who made that stuff, and if it can be still obtained ?

I looked at B&Q & Halfords - no joy.

I have a boat seat with a very split in it that would be ideally fixed by this product. The set is covered in heavy duty marine vinyl.

Try swimming pool supplies. Repair kits are available for liner pools.

You can probably get it in halfords. I used it on motorcycle seats with great success, the trick was to hold the split in position with sellotape strips across the cut, then fill the gaps between the strips with vinyl weld, leave till really set, remove one or more bits of sellotape and fill the remaining open bits. Do not be tempted to apply a whole layer over the top or it melts the stuff underneath and the cut opens up again !!

Frosts the car renovation people sell a kit that is cured with a warm iron, this comes with various colours and pattern papers to give the right graining, about ten pounds for the kit, I have bought the kit but not used it yet.

I did spend about an hour googling around .. .found several big kits like this, but all I want is a small tube of clear. Tried Halfords & B&Q with no luck.

Halfords sell it, or used to. Not much use if there's any tension on the vinyl.

I don't think that's suitable for plasticized PVC, only rigid. I suspect it would attack upholstery and you'd end up with a shrunken crispy mess.

I tend to think the kit would be handy for all sorts of stuff, but it would probably sit in a cupboard for years and be no good when I came to use it.

How about the stuff that comes with Stick-a-Soles?

In article , Dave Plowman (News) writes

The trick then is to bond to a patch of vinyl underneath the tear/split and that takes the tension, the top layer can be mainly cosmetic. There are clever tricks with texturing too.
