uPVC lock/handle broken

It hasn't been a good week. First the shower broke (which I got some good advice on here the other day) and now one of the window locks is knackered. Unfortunately it's the toilet and it's preventing us from opening the window :-(

It's the type where there is a lockable 'button'. When unlocked, you can press the button and turn the handle. The handle works a mechanism that is internal to the window. I looked on

and I think it is what it refers to as the 'espag' style rather than the old cockspur type (which we have on some older windows).

Anyway, it seems that replacements are not hard to come by but it is the fact that it is locked shut that is the problem. Also the lock is not right: the actual cylindrical part that the key turns is sticking out proud of the surrounding button, whereas it always remains flush with the button on the other windows, whether locked or not. Obviously, the handle needs to be open in order for me to unscrew it from the frame.

Is it worth trying to pick the lock somehow (and, if so, how?) or what about drilling it out?

In case it's relevant, the windows are about 11 years old and I believe were installed by Anglian.

Thanks.

All the window locks that I have come across unlock with a penknife blade or nail file 'jiggled' in the hole - now wether that will solve your problem or not I don't know, but it's a good starting point...

Saw the handle off alongside the spindle. Then you can access the screws.
