uPVC Fascia cover boards

May 19, 2008 1 Replies

Hello,

the wooden fascia boards to my attached flat roof brick garage need painting from black to white.

They look structurally sound.

Can people please give the pros and cons of using the 9mm fascia cover boards that simply secure themselves to the existing wooden fascia boards, hopefully giving a more pleasing look.

Will the wood behind them eventually rot, or will it be OK

Thanks in advance

You should be ok if the wood is genuinely sound and once the plastic is fitted, it can still 'breathe' from behind. Check also how the drip rail of the flat roofing as been done. It is essential that no water gets behind the upvc because that will start the rot. Quite often the only edge that has a proper drip rail is the one with the gutter fitted. For a proper job, lift the felt roof edges, fit full depth UPVC over the facsia boards and then get the roof recovered.
