Tumble Dryer Problems

Hi,

I've got an old Hoover A 8756 washer dryer that does not dry.

I've got power to the blower motor and the heating element is hot. I've rigged the door catch so that the machine thinks it's closed when it isn't and hot air is blown in to the drum. The countdown timer goes round and all the light come on. It's just the small matter of the clothes not drying!

btw: Does anyone know if this is a condensing or vented dryer (as you can guess, i'm new to this, I've looked for a vent and cant see one and no air comes from any of the holes that are there)?

Any thoughts appreciated?

Thought I'd better say, the drum does go around too and I've just checked again and the model number is actually A 8576

Cheers

It could well be something to do with the vent outlet being blocked somewhere and not letting the damp air escape. I don't know whether your model is condensing or hose type, but I had similar problems where the clothes were not getting as dry as they should be and it turned out that the vent hose was partially blocked - with water! The hose, being rather long, ended up in a U shape and the steam gradually condensed filling the base of the U and obstructing the air flow.

If it is an ordinary type and there is no air coming from the vent hole (normally around 4" for the vent hose to connect to), it could be that there is a major blockage within the vent part of the machine (piece of clothing). On my Creda, the air comes from the drum, through a filter between the drum and the door and then through ducting to the vent hole at the rear of the machine.

There should be a filter fitted (usually in an obvious place) - check that isn't blocked.

Try taking most of the clothes out, just drying a few. Some models cannot dry all of the ones that they wash!! Bit of a design error really!! Then work out the optimum 'wet load'

I removed the u bend pipe near the vent, and it was full of water! I emptied it out, and all is well. Many thanks Roger and Co.
