Well there's a thing - I've just had to change the battery too. The gasket's intact but I can't seem to get the case back to snap in. Used a holesaw(!) over the case/glass and squashed it in a vice, but it's still not on properly.

Yes, I realise that, but it's akin to the loading on a stepladder being for a static load - it has no meaning in any sort of reasonable use and is therefore unfit for purpose. I have a Tissot Seastar quartz, that I bought in the mid-70s, much touted as 'waterproof' (another word that's been dropped for obvious reasons) and it leaked when used in the rain (cycling and running) and in the shaower (thermal cycling - perhaps worse).

Yes - it was (is) a b***er to get it to fit again. Without the gasket the back does not fit at all. With it - well I always had to use a vice and more pressure than I was comfortable with... Can't remember what I used to protect the crystal. Think I pinched the gasket last time so it was then too loose to fit snuggly.

I got one of these today:

Luminous hands, rather than the face. The blurb with it explains that this depth business means it "resists" water at that depth, not "proof against it". It has a little table showing that (as mine is) - Water resistant (100M or 10bar): splashes/rain - yes, swimming/shower - yes, skin diving - yes, scuba diving - no.

So there you have it.
