Too stiff

Hi

I bought some Pegler gas rated ball valves, and am not happy with them. They are seriously difficult to close, and one I cant close no matter how much I force it. Are these all faulty, or are these ones normally sods to operate? I havent even fitted them yet.

cheers, NT

Are you going to use them on gas or water?

They are slightly hard to turn but you should be able t hold the body in one hand and the handle in the other and operate without too much difficulty.

thats what I figured. These were all very diffuclt, needing more force than I'd be willing to put on the pipework in situ. Theyre for water, only ones the supplier had that met the requirements.

I am a fan of these valves and have a lot of them. I would say that they are all a fairly stiff operating items, particularly if held in the hands.

To turn the 15mm ones you have to grasp the body very firmly with one hand to operate the lever with the other hand. No experience of larger ones.

Try putting a little water into one and see if it has a slight lubricating effect.

I have some 90 degree ball valves that came with a Magna Clean filter. They have small "toggle" size handles? to operate them - no chance! Have to get a spanner to the stem top. Better that way than have leaky stems though.

FWIW the 22mms with the long handles are significantly easier. The handles give a lot more leverage I guess.

Yes, I've noticed that. It might be the large dimensions of the insert. At any rate, it's not a problem, even with the 15mm ones. I tend to put a pipe clip reasonably close on each side to make the installation firm but the force is not enough to bend the pipe anyway.
