Check BobbyLlew's youtube, I think he had one fitted, I prefer my water to be hot at times I decide rather than when it guesses.

Mostly the latter. Conventional cylinders also heat from the top down, the difference is mixergy gives more accurate control of how far down the hot water goes, conventional cylinders don't give any control on that beyond 'yes it's hot enough now'.

You could gain tis extra control by fitting a few additional stats to your conventional cylinder. You could save more heat than mixergy by just spending a tenner or 2 to wrap more insulation round a conventional cylinder.

IOW there is some benefit, but it's much overstated.

Its a dumbed down ready solution to those who do not want to be bothered thinking it through then. A bit like a swiss army knife but less sharp. Brian

If you really want to save, fit under sink water heaters under all your sinks and have an instantaneous electric shower. Much less piping needed too. You only need a tank for baths and solar thermal heating if you have it. Make sure tank is close to bath. I have less than a meter of pipe between bath and HW tank.

They didn't develop stratification floating hot water on top of hot, it is a fact of physics and has always happened. Hot fluids always rise above cold ones and stratification will develop.

An heater element twin high level/ low level have been available for years, giving a choice of how much water to keep hot.

I can understand the diffusion of cold into the tank entering at the bottom, will have some merit. I can also see how being able to vary the target temperature will also have merit, I included it in a management system I designed some 30+ years ago.

The potential for heating water when the (smart metered) leccy is cheapest, apparently notified by their network to each cylinder is quite novel... whether it's when you want or need it is another question...
